Kechene Debre Selam Medhane Alem Church

The first church was ordered to be established by Lij Iyasu more than 100 years ago (in 1903) and it was rebuilt to take its present octagonal shape from 1911-1913.

The octagonal church stems are like most of the churches of this design from the early 1920s. It features richly decorated woodworks as lintels between the exterior wooden pillars supporting the protruding, two storey roof. On the same compound, there is an additional basilica styled church; St. Gabriel Church has a cuppula on its apsis, of more recent origin. It is located at Kechene locality.
