Holy Trinity Cathedral is established during the reign of Emperor Menelik II. Emperor Haileselassie ordered the reconstruction of the church to take its present architectural style and laid the cathedral's corner stone in 1931.
The original modest building stems from the end of the 19th century and was the first mosque to be built in the new town of AddisAbaba.
Located in Merkato, the large market district, the modern building serves as a landmark. It was built between 1930 and 1933 by the Italian government.
